"No one hides from the Empire. They see everything, they know everything."
For too long Callie has been in pursuit of revenge, Edward has been searching for forgiveness, and the Empire has held the world under its boot.
Callie has a unique skill that can gain access to the Emperor and end his tyranny. To unlock it, she needs a man -- a strong, hot man like Edward. But Edward is too tortured by the failures of his past to believe he can save the future. Until an insistent drumbeat fills his head and drowns out the screams of his past, leading him to the one woman who could be his salvation.
There will be love and hot sex. There will be blood and sacrifice. And finally, if they can pull it off, there can be freedom from the Empire.
The Empire continues to control life and the Emperor is as corrupt and depraved as ever. Callie is waging her own rebellion, using her unique talent to eliminate high ranking officials on her quest to kill the Emperor, edging ever closer to her goal. Edward is looking for forgiveness for failing the people who believed in him and suffered for that belief. What Callie doesn’t know is that there is only one person alive who can actually kill the Emperor, and he is suffering from so much self doubt, it isn’t certain he can help. But once Callie and Edward join forces, will they be enough to put a stop to the Emperor once and for all? Exactly what is the Emperor, and who is Edward? Will either survive to see a new world emerge if they are successful?
This fourth installment in the Empire series by Cat Marsters is the best yet. Callie is a strong character, bent on getting her revenge for all she has lost. Edward is a mess, and yet there is strength in him as well. The attraction they feel for each other is hot and steady, but Callie is determined to complete her mission, no matter what. These characters are finely crafted, and I was brought to tears by Edward’s pain, and cheered by Callie’s strength.
And the supporting characters from the series also make appearances here in support of the ultimate mission to end the Empire’s grip on the world. No Empire book would be complete without Ms Marsters’ particular brand of hot and steamy sex, and the ultimate scene that provides Callie’s boost in power is so far over the top as to be incendiary. If you want a great read with lots of participation and passion, this installment of the Empire series comes highly recommended.
