Hardwired for all kinds of action…
Take Me, Lover, Book 2
When Anne Parker yanks open her front door, she’s armed and ready to aim cold fury at her ex. Instead, she finds herself staring up at Pete Crenshaw, a man as disarming as he is dangerous to her battered defenses. A man whose touch sends her I-remember-sex hormones soaring into the red zone.
Those hormones sure have picked a hell of a time to surge, though—with New Year’s around the corner and the ex suddenly making noises about worming his way back into her life.
Pete’s been biding his time. More accurately, lying in wait for precisely the right moment to take their relationship from friends to lovers. He’s aware of Anne’s trust issues, but it’s time to make a move before she has a chance to do what she does best—overthink it.
Her ex isn’t just back to make another play, though. He’s after secrets Pete and his partner hide under the cover of their garage business. Pete finds his heart caught between Anne’s safety and the secrets he’s sworn to keep—unless he can find a way to preserve both…
After devouring Charlene Teglia’s sizzling hot story, Redline Lover, I couldn’t wait to get my mitts on the second in the series, Undercover Lover. Casually acquainting myself with the oh-so-delectable Pete and the woman he covets, single-mom Anne, only piqued my interest the first time around, and I wanted to know if they got together, found happiness, and started a life together.
Pete is the kind of man every woman wants. Understanding and sincere, yet possessive and more than capable of protecting the woman he loves. He wears his heart on his sleeve, especially when it comes to Anne and her infant son, and his utter devotion will make you melt like an M&M. Anne, on the other hand, is a woman who has faced the worst in men yet still finds hope in the arms of the one who has been there to see her through the worst times. Her quick wit and snarky dialogue had me snickering, while her insecurities helped me relate to her on a deeper level. Although it’s been a long time in the making, when they come together, the sex is both blistering hot and sugary sweet, a perfect combination.
Though I felt portions of the story were a stifle rushed (namely Anne’s ready acceptance and lack of need-to-know about Pete’s alter-ego lifestyle), the pace and style of writing maintain your interest so that you’ll read from start to finish with nary a glance at the clock. You get the angst, the drama, the suspense, and of course, the mind-boggling sex. Pete and Anne were everything I hoped they would be, and I’m tickled pink I was allowed to read and review this story.
Don’t miss out on this one, romance fans. Be sure to put Undercover Lover on your TBR list.
