Genetic manipulation has created the first super soldier, the Circ. Able to transform into hulking, inhuman beasts at will, the second generation of Circs, under Project Dawn Endeavor, is much more dangerous than the first. The secret, psychically gifted four-man team who once worked for the U.S. Navy now belongs to the mysterious Mrs. Sharpe who is bent on cleaning up science gone wrong around the globe. She sends the men of Dawn Endeavor out on behalf of the United States government, but there’s more to her agenda than patriotism. If only the team knew what she really had planned.
There are few minds Jesse Fallon can’t read. Mrs. Sharpe’s is one of them. Olivia Lynn’s, the team’s new interpreter on their latest mission, is another. The woman is smart, sexy, and hell on Jesse's libido. Her lips say she refuses to become romantically involved with an ex-SEAL, but her body says something else entirely. Jesse’s Circ, and a Circ can never find satisfaction with a human, because only a Circ can ease his carnal needs. Except Olivia satisfies everything inside him and leaves him craving more. When the mission goes wrong, he’ll have to learn Olivia’s secrets in order to save her, and in turn, save himself. Because a Circ in love is a walking time bomb.
Enjoy the heat and intrigue of Marie Harte’s Circe’s Recruits series? Then step in line for Dawn Endeavor 1: Fallon’s Flame, an all new spin-off that packs the same punch but offers new surprises.
Jesse Fallon is a Circ – a special breed of genetically altered human’s that are faster, stronger, and experience undeniable sexual urges to mate and procreate. A navy man, he agreed to the injections that would change him in order to become a better soldier. Bolstered within his physical capabilities is the ability to read minds and share thoughts. It’s something he’s worked hard to control, yet, is having a difficult time with. When he meets the new linguistics agent, he takes refuge in his inability to read her. However, it is the unexpected and undeniable attraction he feels that catches him entirely off-guard. Olivia is a human, which means she’s off limits, no matter how dire the mating heat is or how much her unique and captivating scent calls to his beast.
When Olivia took the job as the linguistics specialist in a covert operation, she had no idea what she was getting involved in. The men at the compound are giants who tower over her, exuding dominance and power. Yet, it is one in particular that stands apart from the rest. Jesse is gorgeous and sexy, and even as her mind tells her to leave him alone, her body damns her. Struggling to stay away, she finds she cannot control the urges that demand she surrender all to him – even if that means mating with a group of men to ensure the bond between them is irrevocable.
As Jesse and Olivia come to terms with their attraction, the mystery of the story unfolds. Olivia isn’t entirely what she seems, while the mission they’ve undertaken is far more dangerous than anyone could have anticipated. As the enemy looms, Jesse and Olivia will cave to their passion, embrace what they cannot deny, and enter into an unforeseen future together.
As with the original theme of Circ’s Recruits, there is a lot of sex present in Fallon’s Flame, and it’s not for the squeamish. Ms. Harte has taken the concept of sexual heat and bonding to an entirely new level, which involves multiple partners and steamy scenes. The premise is unique and, for me, works. However, if you’re looking for a story in which the man and woman forsake all others, you won’t find it here. The characters are hot, hot, and hot, and the sexual encounters positively blister. Come prepared with a kicking A/C unit and plenty of ice water – or even better, give this a read in the currently brisk outdoors. You’re going to need something to combat the heat.
The writing, as usual, is fantastic, and ensures the pace doesn’t relent and you’ll read from start to finish. As a reader of the previous works, I was very excited to get my hands on Fallon’s Flame, and can say it didn’t disappoint. Fans of Marie Harte, especially those who enjoy Circ’s, this is a spin-off you don’t want to miss.
