The only way to break free is to let go.
In order to protect his shifter kin, FBI agent Trey Walters hides his ability from his employers. For him, a vacation means a whole midwinter month in the Canadian wilderness, free to live in his wolf skin.
When he happens upon a rare lynx shifter, he’s fascinated. And his protective instincts kick into overdrive. The young man needs to be shielded from werewolves and humans alike, whether he likes it or not.
Jonah can hardly wrap his head around the fact that other shifters exist, much less endure the presence of a stranger in his lonely sanctuary. Blaming himself for his brother’s death, he lives in self-imposed isolation. Trust? Forget it. Yet Trey’s patience penetrates Jonah’s fear, and it doesn’t take long for him to fall like a rock for the wolf.
Trey hadn’t planned to embark on an intense, passionate affair, but he finds himself vowing to return after his next undercover mission is over. As months stretch into years, however, Jonah fears that Trey has broken faith with him—or is dead. There’s only one way to find out. Leave the safety of his lair and venture into a dangerous, deadly world…
I fell in love with Trey Walters and Jonah Carvin at the very beginning of their story. Trey is a wolf shifter and Jonah is a rare lynx shifter. Can they overcome all the obstacles to being happy together?
Trey is a FBI agent on vacation when he comes across Jonah in the middle of nowhere. Jonah grew up thinking he was the only shifter around, so imagine his surprise when the wolf that was in his home when he went to sleep is a man when he wakes up the next morning. Jonah has lived a solitary life, and Trey has to be very patient with Jonah to earn his trust. Trey does earn that trust and they enjoy the rest of Trey’s vacation spending time together and becoming lovers. When Trey leaves to go back to work they know it will probably be at least a year before they see each other again. When the time far exceeds that and Trey still has not returned, Jonah must muster the courage to go look for him.
At this point, Ms. Skye took me on a roller coaster ride filled with love, danger and the emotions of trying to learn how to trust again and build a life together. The reader sees the love between Trey and Jonah in their need to get back to each other. The danger that Jonah goes through was very hard for me to read about, but it was needed for the story. The emotions that Trey and Jonah go through on their way back to each other were awesome to read.
You will want to make sure nothing is around to interrupt you when you start to read this story. I could not put it down until the very last page. Ms. Skye makes you feel like you are there with Trey and Jonah, encouraging them to work everything out and to be happy. Both men have been through a lot throughout their lives, and you really want them to find their happily ever after. This is my first book by Joely Skye and I will definitely be checking out her backlist for more. It is a stand-alone book but Ms. Skye mentions in the author notes that Trey has shown up in previous books.
I’m so glad I was able to read this book and will recommend it to everyone I can. Job well done, Ms. Skye!
