One kiss was all he wanted. And one kiss was the only thing she denied him.

Dragon shape-shifter Ricardo wakes in a sweat, knowing he has telepathically contacted a woman in trouble. The same trouble he got into a year ago. With the help of STORM, he tracks her, the latest victim of the evil Dr. Bennett.

But Kristen is no pushover. A bodyguard for the first openly Talented senator, Ricardo’s brother Sandro, she’s used to looking after herself and doesn’t wait for someone else to rescue her. She escapes, and Ricardo finds her naked and shivering on a crowded New York street.

Need sparks between them; they can’t resist each other. They set the night on fire and Kristen loves Ricardo’s sizzling passion, even as she resists loving him. But Bennett wants her back…which means the lovers could lose everything.

Tragedy brought them together and revenge would give them the time they needed to fall in love with one another. Brought together by unfortunate coincidence, Ricardo and Kristen found a common ground. When Kristen sent the telepathic cry for help she did not expect anyone to hear. So when Ricardo, another Dragon shifter, not only heard her call but vowed to free her, she was more than surprised. I think that the fact that both of these characters had been contained by Dr. Bennett on two separate occasions really brought their relationship together. Had Ricardo not understood what she was going through I do not think they would have survived.

Due to their experiences, both main characters were very guarded when it came to letting another person inside their hearts and minds. Ricardo’s came from his time being captured. Formerly an artist he was not equipped to handle the stresses of being abused. So in order to cope with the ordeal he had shut a lot of himself off, not only from others, but also himself. This immediately dragged you in because you needed to find out who this new Ricardo is and what exactly happen to the old one.

Kristen’s circumstances where a little different. Although being held captive did also have a negative effect on her psyche, it was not what caused her to be so emotionally empty. It came from years of guarding a secret so deep even she did not fully understand it. In order to keep her secret she had to keep others away from her mental barriers, which also held her feelings back. I really felt that this is what pulled not only the characters together but also drew me to them.

The amount of strength Kristen held was admirable. As a bodyguard she had trained herself to use not only her supernatural strength as a dragon, but also the strength all humans have. You have to love a woman who can kick butt no matter what the circumstances. Even when she was forced drugs that would not allow her to use her Dragon powers she was still giving her captors a run for their money. I bet she could have even taken Ricardo if she had to.

The heat between Kristen and Ricardo was immediate and continuous. They could not keep their hands off each other, even when it was inappropriate. Although they tried to keep their emotions from one another, and tried to not care, you could tell the connection was deeper than they realized by the way their bodies responded to each other. Sometimes, that physical connection was just what they needed to not only reassure themselves they were safe, it made up for the lack of emotions for themselves as well as each other. It was impossible to believe that they could have sex that many times and still not care about the other person. As much as Kristen wants to think they were just having lustful sex you knew they were making love.

Not only were the main characters memorable, but so was the supporting cast. Each perrson was integral to the story, and I loved it. I would recommend this story to anyone who loves a great shifter love story.
