Bidding on a masked man at an auction is all for a good cause, but what happens when he turns out to be a vampire who has the power to unleash the wild woman lying dormant inside you?

As a Darklander vampire, Mitch has spent a century living in a bleak world, but all that changes when he sees Tina. The beast living within Mitch wants to stake his claim. Mitch knows taking Tina’s virginity will change her forever, but try explaining that to a woman whose passion cannot be denied. Tina holds the key to his freedom, but Mitch will be damned forever before he turns her over as a slave for his master.

A sexy charity auction with delectable men flaunting themselves before you, vying for the highest bid – as a woman with the money in hand to make your fantasy a reality, how could you possibly go wrong? Thus is the question posed for our heroine, Tina, as she bids on a man who turns out to be a whole lot more than she bargained for in Be My Vampire Tonight; the first in the Darklander Lovers series.

The novella starts out promising, with our hero, Mitch, preparing to be presented to the adoring female crowd for charity. From the moment he smells the delectable and unique fragrance of the heroine, Tina, he knows he must have her. Although Tina is attracted to Mitch, she senses there is something different about the masked man she’s just purchased a night with and, as sparks fly, she soon discovers she wants more than one night in his arms. Tensions mount as unavoidable obstacles are thrust into their path but, as Mitch and Tina cave to their desires, they soon learn anything is possible if you long for it badly enough and are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice.

While I did enjoy certain aspects of Be My Vampire Tonight, there was a substantial amount of telling versus showing and repetitive word choice/dialogue. Compounding this is the fact that certain secrets are revealed and they seem to come out of nowhere, literally tossed onto the page without warning or any hints along the way. Although a paranormal romance, I felt that reading Be My Vampire Tonight required more of a suspension of belief than most stories in this genre. I truly think that more time spent on the influences and revelations that change things drastically for Mitch and Tina would have given more depth to the story, as well as to their motivations and feelings.

Those issues aside, Be My Vampire Tonight does offer some steamy scenes and a few unexpected twists and turns to keep you on your toes. This first novella in the series is written to foreshadow what you can expect in future, and I can say that if you like magic and shifters, you’ll definitely want to keep an eye out. You get a little of everything here, including a sexy vampire who isn’t all he seems, a heroine who has even more shocking surprises in store, and secondary characters that will have you curious about what happens next.
