Mages' Law states that a Star Mage must reproduce, if he is able. King's Law allows a mage any sexual partners he wishes. The life of a male mage who prefers the company of other men on the sheets is far from easy, but what starts as a hard lesson in survival, ends up as a hard lesson of another sort.
Some things are frowned upon. Other things are a part of life and should be dealt with. When you’re a mage and ostracized by your family, you learn to make do with what you have. Such is the story of The Master’s Lover.
Brenna Lyons always succeeds in creating a world the reader can lose themselves in for a few hours. This book is no different.
Once I opened the document and met Galon, I couldn’t put it down. I felt his helplessness and despair as if it were my own. The reader can identify with Galon’s struggle. I know how it feels to make decisions that aren’t exactly popular. It’s a hard row to hoe to live with those choices. But I loved how Ms. Lyons wrote him with a compassionate yet cautious nature. I could feel the need to be loved deep in his heart and rooted for him to get his happily ever after.
Anzel is an interesting character as well. He has the power to harm Galon. He has the power to show Galon what he can truly become. I liked how he channeled the burgeoning desire he felt for Galon into a shared trust which can evolve into something further.
The ending of this story is something I didn’t see coming, but it worked and worked well because it’s written in a tender fashion. I wanted to see it happen and cheered all the way.
If you want a story that’s a little off the beaten path but full of heart, you need to read The Master’s Lover. I give this story 4 cherries.
