At his dead father's bequest, Jaynell Marley attends an esteemed wizard school hoping to finish up his education. What he finds it that the real education he's lacking is about life. When shape shifter Thomas Sparks claims Jaynell as his mate the pair start a whole new understanding between werekin and wizards.
Jaynell Marley is a wizard and has been homeschooled all his life because of a bit of difficulty with authority figures. When he becomes a freshman at a Wizard Academy, he quickly finds out that he is one of the most powerful wizards at the school. On a trip out with his dorm mates for pizza, Jay meets a werewolf, Thomas Sparks, and their attraction is immediate. When Thomas announces that Jay is his mate to those with him, Jay is less than thrilled at first, having just been released from his father’s bond. He wants to stretch a bit before being bound to another so soon. But Jay heads back to the pack house with Thomas, with the promise that Jay will make it back to the school the next day for his tests. Once at the pack house, Jay and the Pack Alpha, who also happens to be Thomas’ brother, do not get along at all.
This is a fast paced but well developed story of the relationship between Jay and Thomas. Thomas is also the typical alpha in the relationship and very jealous of any man that gets anywhere near Jay. If you expect lots of hot sex, you will not find it here. But if you like magic and romance and a bit of evil from the past, this may be your style. It was very interesting for me to see the different magic going on at the school since this is something new to me.
Wizards, werewolves, gnomes, dragons, avatars and triplets – you will find them all in this fast-moving story by Amber Kell. There is also some evil with Jay’s former professor, Michael Dragonspawn.
I really enjoyed this story. My only problem with it was the sudden ending. I absolutely loved the character of Jay and would love to see more of him and Thomas together. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Kell has in store for us in the next book in the series.
