Since getting together romantically with his best friend Blake on the Fourth of July, Cameron hasn't seen his new boyfriend in three months. Blake's attending college in Seattle, and dealing with a cross-country romance has its challenges—nightly phone calls aren't enough to ease Cam's fears that a sexy sorority girl will snare Blake's interest. With Christmas approaching, Blake is home for the holidays, but the only thing Cam really wants for Christmas—Blake's presence—is a gift he knows can't last.
What do you do when the love of your life leaves?
With that poignant question, I begin my review for I'll Be Home. When I saw the blurb for this book, I knew I had to read it. I love a good male/male story. This one has it's cute moments. Blake and Cameron are sweet men.
I felt like I was reading about two guys I know, the characterization is so detailed. For a short story, I felt like I knew them. And like people I know, they have their little miscues and irritations that made me love them as well as want to string them up. But getting me emotionally involved is the mark of an engaging story, in my book.
There were a couple things that irritated me more than a little. Cameron is...well, he come across as rather wimpy at times. I mean, it's good, because it makes him human, don't get me wrong. But it's a little wobbly because I wanted to see him have a little more foritude. What he goes through isn't easy, so I can't take that away from him and I won't. Other than the story being a little shorter than I'd like, that was really the only misfire.
I loved the mix of heart and heat in the story and felt, when I closed the book, like I was leaving some good friends. You'll feel that way, too.
