Three years ago, Kyle turned his back on a pro-football career and being the target of tabloids or gold-digging groupies. Craving privacy, he gets it at his roadhouse in Northern California—until Lexi invades his life. Indulged and surely phony, she’s exactly what Kyle fled.

An actress since childhood, Lexi’s fresh out of an anger-management program. Weary of the press’s harsh scrutiny, she sees Kyle’s secluded cabin as the ideal place to hide out, and him as a damn-near perfect alpha male. Deliciously virile. Protective. Principled. She offers him serious cash to let her stay for two weeks, assuring there will be no complications or touching.

Yeah, right! Passion flares and lust explodes, along with tenderness. Kyle recognizes how lonely Lexi really is, while she’s falling hard. Through intimate days and impassioned nights, they explore their most shameless needs, until a cruel betrayal exposes their growing love, forcing a choice neither anticipated.

Lexi just wanted to be left alone and to be out of the spotlight for a little while to clear her head and gain some perspective. Fame always comes with a price and as a child actor, she can scarcely remember a time when someone didn’t want something from her. She grudgingly continues because of her family and the fear of disappointing them, but most especially for one person in particular. Her kid sister may be headed down the same path of self-destruction and there’s no way Lexi’s about to let that happen.

Kyle’s rise and fall from fame was littered with drugs, alcohol, and women. Now having a more sober understanding of real life far from the fast lane, he’s decided to live it quietly as part owner of a sports bar. Since the fame he garnered is not worth a repeat performance, Kyle has no intention of aligning himself with others still in the business either. When Lexi comes to him desperately seeking solace from the one thing he escaped, he tries to avoid her, but curiosity still won out.

They both played the fame game and lost parts of themselves that can never be recovered. Kyle decided to bow out before it got any worse, but Lexi is still barely holding on. Mutual understandings and commonalities aside, they both carry a wariness around the other. The temptation to trust is great, but the repercussions of past mistakes make them both extremely cautious. When you’ve been used and abused by others for personal gain, how can you ever trust again?

I really appreciate Ms. Donahue’s penchant for creating lead characters with flaws. Her characters aren’t conventionally beautiful or perfect, so it makes them more appealing. Most people can relate to growing up in some respects too early and quickly, so a connection between the reader and the characters is instantaneous. This story has a very enjoyable contemporary edge with the technology and dialogue used throughout with a pacing that was easy to manage. The unfolding of the story is unpredictable with a completely unexpected and surprising ending.

Fans of Ms. Donahue’s work will immediately recognize her erotic style and the romantic adventure experience she projects to readers through her writing. Those who have not given this addicting author a try, should absolutely start with this incredible story.
