Veronica Thomas has been in love with two men since she was seventeen. One introduced her to passion. The other has shown her how to satisfy it. Now that she’s older, she still wants them both. Wolf Tarrant was more than willing to share Very with his best friend and lover, Lord Michael Kensington. But two years ago, Michael ran from the unconventional relationship growing between the three of them.

When Michael returns from America, things have changed drastically for all of them. Rushing headlong into a scorching, passionate reunion may be a bad idea. Michael’s secrets have the power to keep them apart forever, but Very and Wolf have secrets of their own. Held prisoner by their fears, the three struggle to overcome lies and mistrust to find the freedom to love one another as they have always desired.

Novels that are based on true history can sometimes go astray and at other times can be a lesson is history. In this book, Samantha Kane throws in actual events and creates amazing situations around them.

These Brothers in Arms series is based in Regency England and centers on a group of soldier from the Napoleonic wars, who have developed an alternative lifestyle for the times while clashing with the mores and norms of the period.

Veronica Thomas has grown up in the home of her Aunt Kate and her two husbands. From the age of seventeen, Very has found herself in love with Michael Kensington and his closest friend and lover, Wolf Tarrant. During one very passionate encounter, Very professes her love for both men but the ultimate results are not what a young girl wishes to hear. Although Wolf is very much for the relationship and ready to declare his undying love on possession of Very, Michael is afraid, afraid of her youth, afraid of the commitment and he disappears without a word to America.

Two years later Very and Wolf still flirt and pine for one another while they wait for Michael to return to England. Circumstances bring Very and her family to the protest for the male suffrage movement in Manchester England where Very’s world is turned upside down. Witnessing a murder of a dear friend culminates with the marriage of Very and Wolf and her plans of a life with two men are ended until Michael suddenly returns to circumstances he never imagined. His appearance is what the three have been waiting for but there is a slight problem, Michael has returned with a wife.

With so many secondary stories within the novel, Samantha Kane has brought along all her characters from the previous book to complete the life of Very, Wolf and Michael. Each book in the series is based on the relationship of two men who found the love and life they wish to share with one another but at the same time look for the one woman who can accept their life and join them to complete their life. They have created a community of friends who understand and accept each other but most importantly are loyal and supportive of each other.

As in all the books, the sex is aggressive, frequent and encompasses all possibilities of circumstances, combinations and throwing the dictated rules of the society out the window for all the hear.

I must admit, that even though this is an excellent story with the most amazing characters, it is not my favorite of the series. If you read the first seven books you will most definitely find your own favorites. Very’s character had been a source of amusement and entertainment since her arrival and continues to remain constant. Even if you haven't read the first books, this story stands by itself with great strength. Be open minded and enjoy a somewhat different journey in Regency England. I bet you won't regret it.
