Evie may feel like she doesn't measure up to her prettier, younger sister, but she still knows what she wants—Lucas, her cousin's sexy roommate. She's dreamed about being with him for a long time, and on the sweltering night of her sister's wedding, it's clear he shares her lust. Now Evie is determined to take what she desires—even if it's just for one night….
Who knew getting a drink could be so kinky?
I love a good short story. You know, one where I'm pulled in quickly and want to know what's going to happen next. This is one of those stories. It's first person, which isn't my favorite, but in the short form, it works. Lauren Hawkeye writes an interesting tale of heat, ice, and redemption.
I realize this book is first person and we only get Evie's point of view. I liked that we're in her head and I loved that it took a while to get to the meat of her feelings. It was like going on a journey with her. I even liked that the story was HFN. It leads to all sorts of possibilities for a sequel or three.
As much as I liked it, there were more than few things that niggled. I wanted to get into Lucas' head. I mean, the guy seems like a hunk, but we just get his words. How exactly is he feeling as the act is taking place? I liked how it came out a bit, but I wanted so much more. I also wanted to know how she had sweat dripping from her nipples with a nightgown on. While it's probably possible, the visual took me out of the story. And it surprised me that she was able to ... hmm... act out her fantasy, despite cutting her foot and bleeding all over the floor.
Still, the story is one hotsy totsy. Man, I want a Lucas of my own. The scene on the countertop nearly melted my reader screen.
If you want a story that's seriously hot and packs a punch, then you need to read Take Me Down.
