Helene Cosgrove’s only passion is her art, until she is betrothed to a respectable baron. Believing he will be the love of her life, she’s crushed when her father ends the engagement. Helene is approached by a second suitor, the wicked Lord Redding, Edward Chase. She is duty-bound to marry the scoundrel even though she despises him.

Redding happily snatches his rival’s betrothed and finds himself married to a woman of outstanding talents, utter radiance and innocent sexuality. Her haughty and summary rejection of him only spurs his desire to have her, and prove he’s as worthy of her love as her former swain. And what better way than to tutor her in his bed?

Helene is tempted by Redding in all the wrong ways. When he delivers her secret desires, she must reconcile her heart to the matter—deciding whether she loves Redding for who he is or for what he can do for her, in and out of the marriage bed.

If the idea of star crossed lovers being destined together yet not really knowing it until they almost tear each other apart appeals to you than this is the story for you. These two, Helene and Edward, feel like their marriage is one of obligation not of love, but they can’t seem to get enough of each other. As the days get longer and the passion drives the stakes higher they just might realize that they already found what they were looking for... they just didn’t see it was right in front of them.

Helene was supposed to marry another until a scandal makes her father decide the wedding is off and he takes the next man to offer for her, Edward Chase, Earl of Redding. According to everyone who is anyone (and that includes Helene’s innocent ears) Edward is quite wicked; he is even dubbed the Wicked Earl of Redding. Nothing is out of limits for him according to the rumor mill and this is just not acceptable to Helene, she can’t stand him and cannot wait to get her wifely duties done and over with so she can be left to a life apart from him.

Edward is a man of the rumors, and he doesn’t mind that others know about his past exploits, but they are just that... past. His marrying Helene is the exact opposite of what others would expect of him since his motto is “I love the chase, many women have tried to catch him yet no one has succeeded yet”. But meeting Helene and asking for her hand might be just the thing to bring some good to his tarnished name. If he happens to have feelings for her those will soon turn to boredom….or will they?

I was quite surprised by this book, it wasn't what I expected. It was very well written and stayed true to the time period with references of things happening in the background of this love story. Edward and Helene’s story starts out rocky and doesn’t get any better until they learn to trust each other and be willing to open up to the other, only then do they start to let their feelings grow.

Overall this was a great story with wonderful characters and a healthy dose of sex that definitely kept me wanting more until the last page.
