Ian Bowers is a pirate captain rotting in a filthy prison when a mysterious young man shows up to break him out. Silas Christian is the son of Ian's former captain and Ian finds himself leading an expedition to find his late captain's treasure trove. Along the way, Ian and Silas embark on a tryst that turns into something more as time passes. When Ian tries to settle down, however, he grows restless. Can Silas compete with the lure of the sea?
Ahoy mates! It's time to hit the high seas.
I have yet to find a Mychael Black book that's let me down. Black's writing style is quick and kept me interested. I wanted to know what would happen to Ian and Silas. You might take a look at the number of pages in this story and think this book is short so the development isn't strong. I disagree. Yes, the book is short and yes, I wanted to know more about Silas and Ian's backgrounds beyond what is given, but it's nicely compacted and good for an afternoon read.
Did I mention the heat? Oh yes, there is heat. Goodness. Ian and Silas are so right for each other and reading about them coming together was fever-inducing. I felt the love they had for each other, even before they realized love was possible. Yes, this story is heavy on the sex, but I expect nothing less from a Mychael Black book.
Historicals aren't usually my thing. I don't know the lingo or what clothing was in fashion when. Sometimes that can be a detractor. But in the case of this book, I don't think so. Black's writing is tight enough and kept my attention well enough that I didn't think about the genre. I was absorbed in the characters and wanted to stay in their world longer.
If you want a pirate book with plenty of sex, then this might be the book for you.
