Chaz is a drummer in a rock band who has a thing for piercings. As he leaves his friend's tattoo parlor, he bumps into a business man. Devin Sharpe is utterly irresistible. Neither man is shy about what he wants, and things progress quickly between them. When Chaz has a gig at a goth club, he never expects to see Devin there. But Devin shocks him in more ways than one.

Chaz meets Devin as he’s leaving his best friend’s tattoo parlor. Heat springs up instantly between them and after a coffee they head back to Devin’s place to explore the passion searing between them.

This is called a shot – a Torquere short story – and it certainly lives up to the name. It goes down very easily and has quite a streak of heat and zing to it. At such a short length there isn’t too much plot or characterization, but I didn’t feel stinted either. Chaz and Devin don’t feel like rushed characters or cardboard cut outs – and indeed I’d enjoy reading a longer story about them. There is depth and layers in them – as much as the brief episode allows – and it’s clear there is far more to both these men than meets the eye.

The sex is hot and fast – again as one would expect – but passionate and intense. After such a short read I felt this was like an old-school vignette, a snappy introduction to the author’s style and prose. All up this was a highly enjoyable story and I’d certainly read something else from this author.
