Alex McMann is putting his MBA to good use running the business end of the construction company he owns with his brothers. He’s flown high and wide through the female segment of every geographic area in which the company has a presence, and now he’s ready at last to settle down. When he meets Olivia D’Angelo, CFO of one of their client companies, he’s sure he’s found The One.

Olivia is sharp, she’s smart, she’s sassy and she challenges him both in and out of the bedroom, where the sex is hot and plentiful. Just one problem. She has her own issues and isn’t looking for anything permanent. Alex has to convince her that he’s enough to satisfy her for the rest of her life!

Gorgeous CEO, Olivia insists on keeping her sexy business associate, Alex at arm’s length emotionally while fully enjoying her ‘sex only’ rule. Although he knows he wants so much more, the hopelessly smitten Construction Company owner agrees with her demands just to have the opportunity to be with her.

Alex immediately sees through Livy’s ‘shark’ persona to the vulnerable, soft hearted woman beneath the veneer. Livy is so afraid of love. Afraid of being hurt, as she was by her father. So she retreats into the safety of her armor, not even aware of her loneliness. When there is a frightening accident, Livy is forced to face her true feelings and Alex has his chance.

I enjoyed the way Ms. Holt revealed the true nature and feelings of her complex heroine in a believable and natural way, with the love of a beautiful and giving man as the agent of change. Livy’s awakening to herself and her love for Alex is transforming and powerful. While the sex is hot and steamy as always in a Desiree Holt story, the love affair takes center stage and left me wanting more.

This story was just slightly simpler than it could have been. The tale is ripe for further characterization of the lovers and I craved more. Other than that, I have only the highest recommendations for Hammered. If you like scorching hot love stories that warm your heart, you will love this one.
